History:

The Dornier 24 is a three-engined seaplane built in Germany by Dornier-Werke for the Dutch Navy in 1934. The design was later also adopted by the Luftwaffe and proved to be one of the best airplane ever build, serving into the 1970s' with the Spanish SAR. After 1941 the French company Weser and Potez also built Dorniers. Their construction continued after the end of the war for: maritime reconnaissance missions, medical evacuations and passenger transport.

This big and robust monoplane is built entirely of metal. It differs from other aircraft by a large central fuselage and low draft identical to the two lateral floats. The Dornier measures 24 meters in length, has an opening alaire of about 28 m and is equipped with three BMW BRAMO 323 R-2 engines. These 9 stars-cylinder engines are cooled down by air and have 1000 horse power. Their cruising speed is 340 km/h at 3000 meters altitude.
